The Worker’s Compensation Board provides efficient dispute resolution for injured workers and employers by administering both formal adjudication and informal dispute resolution services. We also serve the public by answering inquiries regarding the Indiana Worker's Compensation system and collecting statistical information regarding workplace injuries in Indiana.
As a Court Reporter, you will be responsible fo the maintenance and filing of court documents and records. You will conduct hearing members and all parties for the purpose of scheduling hearings. You must have ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and be able to travel within assigned areas. The hearing locations will be located in Elkhart, South Bend, Valparaiso and LaPorte. You will work from home until the day of the hearings. On the day of the hearing you will be required travel to either the courthouse, public library or other government building where the hearing is being conducted. You will be required to travel to the central office in Indianapolis for Worker's Compensation Board to exchange files and gather supplies as needed.
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Provide court documents to all parties involved.
Maintain court documentation in files.
Responsible for accurate verbatim reporting of all hearings.
Schedule and manages case dockets.
Prepare transcripts of hearings as required for use at higher level hearings.
Prepare records when case is appealed to the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court.
Reserve hearing site in various counties assigned to the Judge.
Schedule of cases to ensure timely adjudication of claims.
Track submissions ordered by the judge to ensure deadlines are met.
Process requests for emergency hearings and continuances.
Timely preparation of awards and orders issued by the judge.

Court reporting degree or certification with machine credentials required.
Knowledge of applicable statute and adjudication process.
Effective organizational skills.
Knowledge of legal terminology and documentation.
Knowledge of legal procedures pertaining to the assigned area.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing or verbally.
Ability to maintain cooperative work relationships.
