Sellwood Studio Of Performing Arts Madison, NJ US DESCRIPTION A busy summer theatre camp seeks a professional performer/director to devise and create musical productions that run throughout the summer months. Most camps last two weeks, but occasionally, they are one week. This is a lively, fun, and very friendly place to work. Shows are devised by the director and the creative team, along with themes (i.e., Descendents, Hamilton, Wicked), and music from shows and pop culture is used to create an original story. Creativity is encouraged for the participants, and the end product should feel collaborative for the youngsters. We have a large, well-trained camp staff to assist. Theatrical assistance (dramaturgy, stage management, assistant direction, assistant choreography, etc.) is provided by the studio's experienced high school/college-age theatre students as needed. All music (guide tracks, backing tracks, lyrics, and sheet music) is created and supplied to your specifications by our in-house musical director. Job Responsibilities: Help write a fun storyline that the campers can bring to life. Cast and stage the show. Choreograph fun, lively dances. Incorporate drama, improv, fight scenes, and anything that the story needs in collaboration with the performers, with an emphasis on fun, participation, and enthusiasm rather than polish. Requirements: Ideal candidates should have experience successfully working with children of all ages (camp attendees generally range from 5-11). Experience blocking and staging shows, running games and improv exercises, handling large groups of children (with assistance). The ability to choreograph fun, lively, simple dance routines is a plus, but choreography assistance can be provided. Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and engaging with children. Hours - 9:30AM - 4PM Monday to Friday. Weeks 3&4 - July 7-18 Weeks 5&6 - July 21-August 1 Location - Madison, NJ. 30-second walk from a direct train from NY Penn Station. A travel stipend is considered for NYC professionals. Accommodations can be made for matinees for a current Broadway performer. The pay range is $800-$1200 weekly, commensurate with experience. Directors with children can participate for free or become Junior Counselors (rising 7th graders and older). Background check required (run by the studio at no charge).
